Beers
The Salisbury Arms was the first CAMRA PUB. It retains to this day a wonderful reputation for its real ales, no less than eight well kept choices at any given time.
We are now tied to Charles Wells but the quality of their ales and the wonderful choice of guest ales provide something for everyone’s taste. Including beers from St Austell, Butcombe, Brains, Bager, Castle Rock, Adnams, JW Lees, Youngs, Fullers and Everards to name but a few.
Wells famous Banana Bread Beer is always available in bottles. Youngs double chocolate stout is also on sale. ('What a waste of good chocolate!' says Angela).
Erdinger wheat beer is also proving very popular. Crones Organic Cider on handpump at 7.5abv is not for the faint hearted. Lagers on draught include Red Stripe (Jamaican), Kirin (Japanese), Estrella Damm (Spanish) as well as Carlsberg, Guinness and Aspalls are both popular as is the Hot Mulled Wine that is available during the colder months.

Erdinger Weissbier is brewed using fine yeast according to a traditional recipe and, of course, in strict accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law. Even today, the beer is still fermented in the traditional way; it takes three to four weeks for Erdinger Weissbier 'with fine yeast' to mature. Only the finest ingredients are used in its production. Years of experience and constant quality checks guarantee the beer's unmistakable flavour. |

This unique brew (Alc 5.2% vol) combines all the traditional qualities and style of a Charles Wells bitter with the subtle flavour of banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness. |
